І. ПОЯСНЮВАЛЬНА ЗАПИСКА

Ціль і задачі дисципліни

Метою курсу є формування основних навичок мовного спілкування на

Англійській мові в професійних сферах.

Задачами курсу є:

формування вмінь вести бесіду, брати участь у дискусіях;

удосконалювати навички читання і розуміння спеціальних текстів;

тренування навичок розуміння на слух діалогічного і монологічного мовлення

 

Ці методичні вказівки охоплюють основні розділи предмету, які зазначені в тематичному плані. Окрім лексичних тем багато уваги приділяється розвитку і удосконаленню граматичних навичок, а саме; вживання пасивного стану, способи утворення слів, синтаксичний розбір складних речень. Багато уваги приділяється реферуванню автентичних текстів та особливостям їх перекладу.

-Good morning! I'm glad to see you! I hope that you had a good holidays this summer! But now we have many work to do. Today we'll talk about ceramics and pottery in Ukraine.

And first of all I want to tell you some information…

Ukraine is reach in deposits of the best ordinary and kaolin clay of different color - from white and creme to brown and dark-gray; this fact mostly accounted for the great development of ceramic craft even in the ancient times. Pre-Minoan Tripil painted ceramics of the end of eneolitis (2500 - 2000 B.C.) is of a special importance for Ukrainian ceramics and pottery. Its rich ornamental motives, signs, composition principles had a great influence on the further development of the Ukrainian pottery on the whole.

The time since the VII century A.D. is the Slavic period in the development of Ukrainian ceramics. Dark-gray ceramics of that period had in itself a lot of features of the Roman one, with embossed (dug) ornament (parallel and wavy lines, cuts, stars).

As early as in the Princely period (X - XIII century) ceramic production reached a high degree of perfection and became the real craft. Since that time the potter's wheel was used, the blunge and the process of burning was improved, and at the verge of the X - XI centuries a method of kaolin clay treatment, very close to porcelain of the XVII - XVIII centuries, was found. In addition to clayware with exquisitely simple ornaments, also modeled figures of humans and animals, things for religious use were made. Technical ceramics for construction purposes achieved unprecedented perfection: bricks, tile, ceramic tile, architectural details and ornament, quite often glazed. Beautiful carpet patterns were laid out with tile and ornamented ceramic tile.

After a short period of decline of ceramic production in the XIV - XV centuries its new upturn started from the end of the XV century. New guilds of potters arose. Production technique, forms of clayware, adornments, glazed houseware became more diverse, ornamented ceramic tiles were more widely spread.

Fromthe XIX centuryarticlesmanufacturedindifferentregionsofpotterycraftstartedacquiringcertainpeculiarities, whichweredependentonnaturalcharacteristicsofthematerial, technicallevelofproduction, localtraditionsetc.

InOpishnyaengravingwasdoneonwetcrock, sculpturedornamentalmotiveswerestuckon, fabulousanimalsandbirdswereinterlacedwithpaintedfloralornament. InPodillyamanufacturingofredpaintedhousewareanddecorationofbowlswiththematicfiguredcompositionswasstarted.

Inthe 20-30s ofthe XX centurycompulsorycollectivizationto a certaindegreewasharmfultopotteryproductioninUkraine, asitwasthereasonofdecreaseinthenumberof potters-craftsmen. Potterywassomewhatrevivedin after-waryears, butinthe 1960-80s theprocessofpotterycraftdecaywenton. Ceramicsproductiontechnologyhasnotbeenchangedmuchsincetheancienttimes, itliesin: 1. excavationandpreparationoflay; 2. makingofhousewareandtiles; 3. burning. Pottery are objects that are first shaped of wet clay, then hardened by baking. Pottery includes both decorative and practical items such as bowls, vases, dishes, and lamps.

 

Harder - Pottery is a decorative or useful ware made of baked clay. Pottery includes valuable works of art, inexpensive dinnerware, vases, and other simple household items, all made by professional potters. The word pottery also refers to the factory that makes pottery. Pottery ware is part of a larger product group called ceramics that encompasses bricks, cement, sewer pipes, and other industrial products. Four steps are needed to make a pottery product: preparing the clay mixture, shaping the clay, decorating and glazing the item, and firing (baking). The firing temperature gives pottery its finished appearance and its strength.

 

There are three major pottery types: (1) earthenware, (2) stoneware, and (3) porcelain. Each type is distinguished by its clay mixture and the temperature at which it is baked or fired. Earthenware is a pottery clay mixture that is fired at a lower temperature. The low baking temperature allows the use of colorful glazes, but also yields a pottery that cracks and chips more easily than other types. Stoneware pottery is made of a heavier clay mixture that gives it greater strength. Stoneware is fired at a much higher temperature to give a harder finish. Porcelain is the purest and the most delicate type of pottery. It is formed from koalin, a fine white clay, that is mixed with controlled amounts of feldspar and flint and then fired at a low temperature.

Glass

Silicate materials include glass, porcelain, enamels and cement.

Ordinary glass is a mixture of silicates in the form of supercooled liquid. It is made by melting a mixture of sodium carbonate (or sodium sulphate), limestone and sand.

Ordinary glass contains about 10% sodium, 5% calcium, and 1% aluminum, the remainder is silicon and oxygen. It consists of an aluminosilicate tetrahedral framework, within which are embedded sodium ions and calcium ions.

Cement

Portland cement is an aluminosilicate powder which sets to a solid mass on treatment with water. Portland cement before treatment with water consists of a mixture of calcium silicates and calcium aluminate. When treated with water the calcium aluminate hydrolyzes and forms calcium hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide. These substances react further with the calcium silicates and produce calcium aluminosilicates in the form of crystals.

PASSIVE VOICE

1.The use of the Passive Voice

The Passive Voice can be used : a) without the doer of the action being mentioned (the doer is either unknown or unimportant)

e.g. The telegram was sent yesterday. (Телеграму відправлено вчора.)

b) with the doer of the action being mentioned. This occurs only when the doer of the

action is to some extent emphasized. The noun or pronoun denoting the doer of the action is introduced by the preposition by.

e.g. This beautiful poem was written by Taras Shevchenko. (Цей чудовий вірш

був написаний Тарасом Шевченком.)

2.The formation of the Passive Voice.

The Passive Voice is formed by means of the auxiliary verb to be in the required

form and Participle II of the notional verb.

Indefinite Tenses

The Present Indefinite, the Past Indefinite and Future Indefinite Passive are

formed by means of the Present Indefinite, the Past Indefinite or the Future Indefinite

of the auxiliary verb to be and Participle II of the notional verb.

The Present, Past and Future Indefinite Tenses in the Passive Voice as well as

in the Active Voice express a single, permanent or repeated action in present, past or future.
